Kick Glass Bottle Recycling is a program and initiative under Piney Woods Conservation Group.
Kick Glass Hattiesburg, recycles discarded bottle glass, turning it into sand and gravel, helping to restore eroding coasts, create new glass, and support various projects—all while benefiting the planet through sustainable recycling!
WHY RECYCLE GLASS?
Glass is a highly recyclable material that can be reused indefinitely without losing its quality or purity. However, in the U.S., only 31% of glass is recycled, compared to 90% in European countries. The rest often ends up in landfills, where it takes millions of years to decompose. Hattiesburg, like many other cities, faces the challenge of managing waste efficiently, and recycling glass offers a sustainable solution that can benefit both the environment and the local economy.
Recycling one glass bottle saves enough electricity to light a 100-watt bulb for four hours .
HOW TO RECYCLE GLASS?
We are actively working on securing a dedicated space and assembling a team to manage glass drop-offs and pick-ups in Hattiesburg.
In the meantime, we are excited to kick off the initiative with glass drop-off events!!
The first event will be held at SoPro Brewing Company in April, giving the community a chance to contribute their glass waste to this sustainable cause.

KICK GLASS ORIGINS AND HOW IT BENEFITS OUR FUTURE!
Kick Glass is a program under Pinebelt Blueways and Piney Woods Conservation Group, born out of a passion for preserving Hattiesburg’s natural beauty.
We started by organizing cleanups along local waterways and public spaces, collecting large amounts of trash and litter. During these efforts, we were struck by how much of the waste was glass, which inspired us to find a sustainable solution.
This led to the creation of Kick Glass Bottle Recycling, with the mission of recycling glass and repurposing it for environmental restoration. Moving forward, every future cleanup will be even more impactful, as we focus on recycling all means of recyclables, including glass, right here in Hattiesburg—helping keep our city clean while contributing to larger-scale sustainability efforts.
THE FUTURE OF
We envision Kick Glass growing into a full-scale operation with a dedicated warehouse and processing facility, allowing us to collect and recycle more glass efficiently. Our goal is to make a lasting impact by regularly contributing recycled glass to the Glass Half Full initiative, helping restore marshlands and protect coastal ecosystems for generations to come.
